Welcome to my website.
I am an associate professor in the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Oxford and a Fellow and Tutor in Philosophy at Oriel College, Oxford.
I work in the philosophy of physics and in metaphysics. Much of my research focuses on the nature of space, time and spacetime. I'm interested in the implications of physics for traditional philosophical questions, such as whether time really passes. (It doesn't.) I'm also interested in the ways in which work in general metaphysics can (and should) inform the interpretation of physics.
I read Physics and Philosophy at Balliol College, and took an MASt in Maths (a.k.a. Part III) at St John's College, Cambridge, before returning to Oxford to do graduate work in Philosophy. Before taking up my current position at Oriel, I was a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow at Exeter College, Oxford.
In addition to the philosophy of physics, I teach logic, metaphysics and epistemology, the philosophy of language, and the philosophy of science.
